The aftermath?

I am seriously amazed by the number of people who contacted me one way or another after Friday’s post. I admit I was worried initially about blogging, but when the calls, email and Facebook messages started coming in, overwhelmingly in agreement with what I wrote, I was pleased that I did.

Not a single person had a negative thing to say. Not one individual contacted me to say I was wrong, that the facts are not straight, that it’s “not like that”. No one left nasty comments on my blog, or sent me rude messages on Facebook. Only one person debated my post, and even they simply asked if what I wrote was fact or hearsay.

A number of theories surfaced over the weekend, amongst the people I spoke with. One is that the school really does not think that there are too many people who owe them money who will be unable to come up with it before the deadline. Therefore, if the numbers are as low as they predict, they will only lose a very small percentage of students. Another theory is that they simply don’t care, that they are no longer willing to come to arrangements with those who can’t pay. Other theories abound, including conspiracy theories, because everyone loves those.

I have one question remaing: Some people received contracts for next year, last month. The contract states exactly how much tuition a family needs to pay the school, after financial aid has been awarded. Those contracts had to be signed and returned to the school.
Last Thursday, a (seemingly large) group of people received a letter by registered mail informing them that if they did not pay the school money owed before a certain date, their children would not be accepted back to the school for next year.
If those families have already signed a contract for next year, is that now null & void? Or is the registered letter null & void, because there is already a contract for next year?

Please don’t hesitate to comment on my blog. I expected negative and positive feedback on this whole issue, and am genuinely interested to hear both sides’ arguments.
